THE HALF MOON - Felixstowe

T he Half Moon is a little gem of a pub situated in Walton, on the outskirts of Felixstowe.  Billed by landlord, Patrick, as a haven from the stress and strain of everyday life, The Half Moon has won a range of awards from The Evening Star’s Best Felixstowe Pub through to Best Suffolk Landlord, Best Suffolk Town Pub and Best Pub Hanging Baskets.

The words quirky, welcoming and intellectually stimulating could all be applied to the atmosphere, particularly on a Friday night when the buzz of contented customers can be heard floating along Walton’s High Street.

Local butcher, Daryl, says “It’s a proper pub, no blaring music, just great banter.  There’s such a cross-section of customers, you forget who people are and what they do, and just chat.  Patrick’s the hub”.

‘I defy you to have a better night’ says the genial host who regularly organizes in-pub entertainment for his loyal customers.  ‘Word of the Week’ has perplexed and amused in equal measure, whilst the Walton World Conker Championship has resulted in many a bruised knuckle.  Quiz nights have raised substantial funds for charities such as the RNLI and MS.

Patrick’s proud of the fact that whilst his pub is a traditional ale house, it’s also a female friendly environment.  Swearing and bad manners have been banned, along with smoking at the bar.  A refreshing change from the norm and no doubt part of the secret of its success.
